How to Select Heavy Duty Castors for Machinery and Transport Frames

Define the Worst Credible Load Case
Use the equipment weight plus maximum payload, then consider uneven frames, ramps, floor joints and impact. A safe selection is based on the number of castors that realistically carry the load, not only the total number installed.
Separate Static, Dynamic and Shock Conditions
A castor supporting stationary equipment experiences a different duty from a powered or frequently towed frame. Travel speed, duty cycle, obstacles and sudden direction changes can increase stress and heat.
Choose the Wheel and Diameter Together
Elastic rubber can improve noise and vibration behavior. Polyurethane can balance wear, load and rolling performance. Nylon can reduce rolling resistance on suitable smooth floors. A larger diameter generally crosses obstacles more easily, but overall height and turning clearance must fit the machine.
Review the Bracket Layout
Confirm plate size, bolt centers, bracket offset and whether the frame needs swivel, fixed, total brake or directional-control castors. The mounting structure of the equipment must be capable of carrying the same loads.
